I have been adopted and now have a new home.

This box and tiles are truly a work of art.

Every side of the unusually coloured box has wonderful picture scenes - they even continue onto the back panel. The ornate handles are engraved. The drawer pulls are made from bone and the trays have been lacquer painted black with speckles on the inside.

And the tiles ... there are 148 tiles with gorgeous thick bone to bamboo ratio (50/50). The bone is clean and the carvings are detailed and high quality. So this game has all its original tiles, 144 playing tiles and 4 spare blanks.

Check out the flower tiles - one set tells a story about four warriors in various apparel. The other set features the four "professions". I have taken close up photos so you can see the detail and quality of the engraving.

A couple of small things to mention. The box has lost a piece of trim on the back (I have photographed the missing piece - it's the last photo in the slideshow) and the previous owner has written the word flower on the 4 blank spare tiles - I have not tried to remove the words.

This game will look beautiful in someone's private collection. But more importantly is wonderful to play with. There is something about the feel of these tiles that is impossible to describe - all I can say is they made the gals in my Mah Jong club smile whenever this game came out to play.
