I am so pleased to offer this wonderful vintage fully carved box with exquisite tiles for adoption - it is quite the beauty!

This game offers a mix of a "traditional" carved box and wonderfully stylized bone & bamboo tiles. These tiles are amazing - they are a little larger (but not too much larger) than others I have played with. My Mahj gals and I have played with this game numerous times and the tiles are simply wonderful to handle and very clear to read.

Check out the unusual one bamboo tile and the extremely rare and detailed flower tiles. There are two bouquets of flowers one numbered 1-4 and the other has winds N, S, E and W. I have taken a lot of close up pictures of the flowers so you can see how detailed and colorful they are.

There are 148 tiles with gorgeous thick bone to bamboo ratio "60/40" - 60% bone and 40% bamboo. The bone is clean and the carvings are detailed and high quality. 148 tiles means this game has all its original tiles, 144 playing tiles and 4 spare blanks.

Because of the more complex style of the character tiles this game is likely from the mid to late 1940's.

The box has a gorgeous carved handle and features two characters sitting at each end. Each side of the case has a pictorial scene - delicately carved. Even the drawer pulls are original and made of bone. Note: there is a corner damaged on the front edge and a small section missing on one edge at the back. I have not tried to restore these sections but understand they can be fixed by the right "skilled" person - which I realize is beyond my skills.
