This Chinese Bakelite game is called a "parrot bam" because of the design of the one bamboo tiles.

I am delighted to offer this lovely Chinese Bakelite game for adoption. I love the intricately carved parrot one bamboo - it is very stylized and quite unusual. Check out the flower carvings too!

Chinese Bakelite is a term used to identify this style of game. These games were imported from China and are made of Bakelite - they pass the scrubbing bubbles test for Bakelite. Most of the Chinese Bakelite tiles have a sharper edge to them as this set does.

There are 152 tiles so you can play regular Chinese rules or NMJL (National Mah Jong League) rules. There are 8 flowers, 2 sets of fully sequenced bouquets numbered 1-4 plus 8 extra tiles that have been added from a partial Chinese Bakelite set to be used as jokers. Note: one set of flower tiles is delicately carved flowers and the second set are carved figures including a cat, rat & emperor.

The dragons are traditional Chinese characters save for the white dragon - this style is know as a picture frame white dragon and is fully carved.

The case is in very good condition and it is plain green with its original plastic handle. The racks are a gorgeous swirled Bakelite in burgundy, cherry red, lemon & minty green. Note the contrasting Bakelite E's. All the flippies are present and working.

Chinese Bakelite games have become very popular recently and this is a great example of a vintage game.
